As an avid FE fan, I can say it is a shame Genealogy of the Holy War hasn't gotten an English version.
It is without a doubt in my mind the best FE I've played (and I've played all of them except for the 3ds ones).
While only having 12 chapters including prologue and ending, most of them have 3 or 4 times the size and amount of enemies of a regular FE chapter. Some of this even take place in a whole in-game country. While this may seem a little too much, this allows for many other mechanics in the game to succeed at being fun, original and useful, like in-castle arenas, skills, story-telling, reinforcements, castle defending, item mechanics and, most importantly, the romances between characters.
Main problems for me were the save system which made it so you could screw your whole file if you didn't save carefully and the lack of information on the importance of the romance system in-game.
It is to me a must-play for any fan of the franchise and at least a try from someone who likes other FEs.
10 on Gameplay for introducing so many mechanics to the FE franchise and being so unique while still remaining an FE at the core.
8 on Story because most stories of FE franchise are very predictable and alike, but this has some twists that make it slightly better.
9 on Graphics, looks pretty nice for an SNES FE
8 on Sound, nothing special I can recall, classic FE tunes if I remember correctly.
10 Overall for being the best FE and one of my favorite games.
