Game Review - Mortal Kombat II on Nintendo Super NES

Written by Jester on May 13, 2015 @ 1:09 am

It's surprising how much the franchise improved from the first installment to the second. Mortal Kombat II stands alongside Street Fighter II and its numerous upgraded versions as the best fighting game of the genre's golden age. The gameplay still needed some work, but was greatly smoothed out and improved from the first game. Roster is excellent. Despite only being 12 characters, all of them are interesting, and playing as them feels like a unique experience. Another big selling point was that Nintendo allowed blood to appear, which meant that the fatalities returned from the arcade version unaltered. The soundtrack is solid and the aesthetics give off an appropriately dark and foreboding atmosphere. Strongly recommended for fighting game fans.
