This new adventure picks up after God of War concludes, telling the story of Kratos ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must embark on a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and finally answer long-awaited questions about his dark past.

Loosely based on Greek mythology, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is chronologically the fourth chapter in the series, and forms part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme. The game focuses on protagonist Kratos, now the God of War, who is haunted by the visions of his mortal past and decides to explore his origins.
