Shortly after the events of Dai Gyakuten Saiban, Susato Mikotoba and Ryūnosuke Naruhodō meet each other once more. The story that follows ties up loose ends from the previous game.

Like other Ace Attorney games, Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 features a combination of detective-oriented adventure scenes and courtroom scenes. All of the previous game's mechanics return; new to this game is the return of the fingerprinting mechanic from Rise from the Ashes.
