The story takes place in medieval Japan, in the Heian capital filled with evil spirits. After her mother is slain by the monsters, Hanabusa spends her days hunting them in revenge. One day, a white fox named Komiya shows up before Hanabusa and giver her a special sword passed onto him by her mother. The sword enables her to recognize the true forms of the spirits and vanquish them. However, her joy is short-lived as the sword is broken by a spirit Hanabusa encounters, who claims to be her missing father, Hidetada. To mend the broken sword, and to find out more about her father, she begins her journey to destroy all of the spirits.

The game features an original battle system where players will have to puzzle out the true identity of the enemy before defeating them. The game includes many elements for the player to have fun spending time on.
