Assassin's Creed: Identity is a free-to-play game for mobile devices that has the 3D gameplay from the main Assassin's Creed series. It offers missions in different eras initially only with 15th/16th century Italy available. Each era is split up into multiple missions in different locations tied to minimum level requirement to play. There are sixteen types of tasks include stealing objects, performing assassinations, pillaging, kill contracts, escorting, courier missions etc. rated with a difficulty level from one to three. Missions are randomly generated. Before starting a mission the player has to choose or hire an assassin with a certain level, a unique ability and a passive bonus. Friends can be called in to help complete objectives. It is also possible to customize and personalize assassins through a name and appearance. There are four types of classes (Berserker, Shadowblade, Thief and Trickster) each with specific abilities. The locations are often shared between missions, but are closed off to prevent the character from wandering too far.
The game carries over the parkour movement from the main series including climbing buildings and running over rooftops as well as combat with the ability to switch between weapons. Movement is done by holding and dragging a finger across the left part of the screen and controlling the camera is done similarly on the right side. When it is possible to assassinate, an icon appears above a character's head and when tapped the action is executed. During combat tapping is used to attack and by holding incoming attacks are parried. Stealth is important as guards can be alerted. The notoriety level, shown through a colour around the mini-map, can be lowered by diving into haystacks or sitting on benches to blend in with the crowd. A mini-map in the top right corner shows the direction of the objective and icons for characters and enemies.
After completing missions the assassin gains experience to level up, currency and skill points to access new abilities. The skill tree has multiple branches and consists of a main and a secondary class with different abilities. Skills can also be unlocked right away by spending the blue, premium currency. The game incorporates an element of identifying and decrypting information and that skill can also be upgraded multiple times as well as through purchases of hacks and advanced algorithms. A third currency called Abstergo credits is used to buy cosmetic items such as outfits. These can also be used to lower the times used for upgrading. Currencies can be bought with in-app purchases. The missions in Identity center around the Crows gang and the First Civilization. Missions are short and varied, generated from sixteen different mission types. Players can choose to hire friends and other players to help complete objectives.
