Ninja Gaiden X is a platformer game for phones released in Japan in 2004. It serves as a prequel to the original NES title that was rereleased partly on mobile phones around the same time as Ninja Gaiden Episode 1: Destiny.
The game features the same type of gameplay as the classic Ninja Gaiden games. The player controls Ryu Hayabusa as he climbs the Illusory Tower of Death to face his father, Jô Hayabusa.
Ryu arrives at a tower, and his father, Jô Hayabusa, from atop the pagoda, challenges him to a final trial to finish his training. Ryu climbs trough the tower fighting illusionary enemies and finds his father on top. Facing him in battle, Ryu emerges victorious. Ryu questions the need for his training but Jô assures him that his skills will be needed someday.
Jô then declares that he has no more regrets and claims that he will defeat the Jaquio, directly leading into Ninja Gaiden.
