Atelier Online combines the usual features of the Atelier series with online play and co-operation with other players. One can also play alone and is free to customize their outfit, skills and equipment. Fields change appearance, monsters and gatherable materials with the season and weather.

The knowledge of alchemy is declining despite the great benefit the art has had on people's daily life. To combat this, an academy is established to educate a new generation within several science fields.
