Vanguard Princess

Vanguard Princess is an independently developed fighting game by Suge9, rumoured to be the ex-Capcom employee Tomoaki Sugeno. It was created in Fighter Maker and features ten playable characters, all girls, who are called Vanguard Princesses. One day, a passenger plane was shot down and the only remaining survivor was a little girl. Growing up, she discovered she had gained mysterious abilities. She was tested by the government and suffered deeply, but eventually her powers spread, affecting other girls who received similar abilities, leading to a large-scale tournament between them.

The game is different from other doujin fighters through the focus on the combo system. By carefully timing and choosing attacks, it is possible to temporarily stun or push back the opponent, making an opening to link attacks, similar to the Street Fighter games. Battles are in fact two-on-two, as players also choose one of the four available support characters. These can be called to fight along, walking behind the player's character, and are especially useful to extend and link attacks.

Next to a large numbers of attacks, reflects, sidesteps and throws, there are also some special abilities. A Super meter is filled by connecting normal moves. Once full, Liberty Art can be performed, the character's most powerful move. To have the support character attack, an Assist meter is used. When the main character takes damage during an attack or has her guard broken, it becomes temporary unusable. Blocking attacks is not possible all the time, as it depletes a Guard meter (known as Calcium Break). Similarly, when hit too many times without blocking, a Stun meter increases eventually causing the character to stand defenceless.

The graphics often contain flashing images and animations that fill the entire screen. The game can be played by two players locally, but online multiplayer is also possible through the LunaPort application. There is a main Story mode, with cutscenes that further each girl's story, and a regular VS mode. In the Story mode, there are also three difficulty levels to choose from.
