Like the previous game, Vajra 2 puts the player in the cockpit of a giant mecha chasing after other mecha. This game changes the formula by interspersing chase levels with more traditional rail shooter levels in which players take on large numbers of smaller enemies. Stage backgrounds and large enemies are presented using prerendered CG FMV, while enemies and player bullets use traditional game graphics.
