Saikyō Habu Shōgi is a Nintendo 64 video game released exclusively in Japan. The game was among the three launch titles in the region, the other two including Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. On the cover of the game's boxart is Yoshiharu Habu, a Shogi professional.
Shogi is very reminiscent of chess, though is a Japanese variant. Like in chess, a game is won when a king is captured or when mate is called. Rather than using models as in chess, the player will use pieces, normally wooden, that feature Japanese letterings on them. The game is rarely played outside of Asian countries.
