Puyo Puyo~n and Puyo Puyo~n Party together serve as the fourth game in the Puyo Puyo series, released in 1999. The game has a serious storyline, unlike other games, and a version that focuses more on multiplayer.

The name comes from the word yon, meaning four.

Yo~n featured skills that allows players to overcome handicaps during gameplay, such as eliminating Garbage Puyo. In addition handicaps are also featured in certain stages, such as one row of Garbage Puyo drops in each move instead of five at a time, and slower dropping speed. In the PlayStation version there is an exclusive mode called Curry Story which tells about Arle collecting ingredients for cooking curry for Carbuncle.
