The Forge is the first Challenge Tomb DLC for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It adds Forge of Destiny as a new challenge tomb available right away from the main menu. The tomb can be completed as a score attack, a time attack or in exploration mode. It is a cooperative tomb that can be completed working together with another human player.
The tomb can also be discovered in a more natural way through the single-player story as the Echoes of the Past side mission. Lara needs to travel back to Kuwaq Yaku. At Pilar's house you discover Pilar has a map she is supposed to give to Lara's friend Abigaile following her grandmother Mariana's death. There is an extensive prologue with story sequences before the actual tomb can be accessed. With the help of a cartographer Lara is able to decipher the map. She teams up with Abigaile to investigate the three locations that have been marked. When visiting two of these locations, with Abigaile taking on the last one herself, Lara has to go through some platforming and puzzle-solving. Together they find a further clue to the map and this eventually leads to the location of the tomb that will also reveal more of Abigaile's past.
The tomb starts as a jungle section with platforming and puzzle-solving. A cave then leads to the titular forge and eventually a giant tower that needs to be climbed. There are no enemies to fight. There are many timed sections where platforms only stay in a position for a short time and Lara needs to find a way to activate mechanisms that get platforms moving. A lot of puzzles also involve flammable gas.
The rewards are Grenadier as a new skill allowing Lara to craft grenades dealing heavy explosion damage in an area radius, Umbrage 3-80 - Shade as a new weapon, and a new Shadow version of the Brocken outfit.
