Year 2666. While Emerald Flint and his companions get mixed up in an upcoming political conflict in Neopolis, we're telling you a completely different story, about completely different people. In the not too distant future the two stories will mingle, but until then terrible trials and tribulations will have a firm grip on Aqua. Emerald "Dead Eye" Flint is fighting against rebels, Crawlers and huge sea monsters, meanwhile a young man sets out for his own adventure.
At the same time as the AquaNox events are taking place we're following William Drake, the young heir of a rundown merchants' dynasty, through his numerous experiences and adventures in Aqua, the world without skies. William Drake sets out to search for the heritage of a mythical ancestor. He is looking for adventure - and finds greed, ruthlessness, merciless hatred … and also unexpected help. But very soon he has to realize that he is not the only one hunting for his ancestor's legendary treasure. Drake only has little experience with Aqua's rough reality. He faithfully transports goods from Galapagos to the northern aquatoria of the Tornado Zone. His life is monotonous, but in his imagination young Drake becomes a genuine mercenary. He wants to be like them: all these brave, daring and free mercenaries, Ronin and freebooters. But he only has little opportunity to make his dreams come true, until one day…. An emergency call: "Hey...hey, dammit! This is an S.O.S! I have a ship on my scanner.... Will somebody answer me? This is the Benthos Seven! ...Hello?!?" William Drake rushes to help the foreign ship, without knowing this is going to be the beginning of his new life. Very soon and without really realizing it he becomes the key figure in the merciless hunt after the legendary treasure that is said to bring bad luck. Foe or friend - who can be trusted? Each moment brings new surprises William has to survive. One by one he puts the pieces together: the distant past, the myths, legends and prophecies gather here and now and a storm of violence is unleashed. Nothing is as it seems. Fairy tales turn out to be the terrible truth, gloomy prophecies become true and well-known enemies awake to a new life.
Your journey will take you through three oceans full of uncertainties and ambushes. Your only goal is to survive. Some ancient prophecy haunts you and sticks to you all along the way. Innocent and inexperienced as you are you're trying to make sense of what is happening to you. The game chases the player through high-energy action and sinister underwater cities. A gripping story, striking characters and the overwhelming architecture of the underwater world are framed by an ingenious user interface. Bonus objectives as well as hidden bonus weaponry guarantee each missions' replayability. Tactics and patience complement the fast-paced dogfights. The player becomes a member of a group of eight mercenaries crossing the oceans. The crew is crammed together in the claustrophobic atmosphere of a freighter: Always on the lookout for loot and the legendary treasure… and always afraid they themselves might become the victims of their unknown enemies.
