Underground Exploration is a computer role-playing game developed and published by Koei in early 1982. It was the first RPG produced in Japan.
In Underground Exploration, players form a party of 4 or 5 adventurers and travel into an underground world where they fight various monsters and collect treasures. Players can buy different weapons for their party members at the beginning of the game before venturing down.
Gameplay involves travel across an unmarked grid of nodes while issuing text-based commands. There is a time-passage system. Underground Exploration is mostly non-graphical and relies on text to communicate what is happening to the player.
