Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is an updated version of the PS3 top-down zombie shooter Dead Nation. Content-wise the game is entirely identical, but the game received a number of graphical enhancements. It can also still be played by two players cooperatively, both offline and online. This PS4 version integrates the changes introduced in the DLC Dead Nation: Road of Devastation, with an endless and an arcade mode.
Entirely new for the PS4 version is the challenge mode to compete directly against other players on the leaderboards for the highest score. The global leaderboards where users are grouped per country to fight the infection is also still present and there is larger social integration through the 'what's new' section where recent scores by friends for specific levels are displayed. The game also offers a separate companion app to track statistics. The broadcast+ mode offers streaming and integrates a voting system where viewers can help determine the difficulty level, the amount of ammo and enemies etc. with 30 variables in total. For each vote two options are provided, one to help and one to work against the player. Viewers who cast a negative vote then appear in the game as zombies with their name for the player to take revenge. Further minor changes include integrating the controller's speaker and light, and slight adjustments to the controls.
