yea p3 and p4 fans hate it cause of how outdated it is

p1/p2 don't have a social link system that's why p3/p4 fas hate it so much

yea pretty much you are right with that comparison 2 has a social link like system called the fate system but its executed a lot better then persona3/4s social link system

Its a bit of a remake as it has a compredum so you can register your demons now also it included an extra day the 8th day which is an epilogue for which route you are on really.

Smt 4 is a lot easier to get into then nocturne and it has stronger characters(even if characters aren't what mainline focuses on) nocturne has really great atmosphere and ost though

If you are wanting to try getting into mainline l would recommend Shin megami tensei 4 which is probably the easiest mainline game to get into if you have a 3ds the beginning is tough and the first few bosses are hard as hell it gets a lot easier once you reach tokyo though and Shin megami tensei 3 nocturne its on the psn store it relies a lot on strategy's and buffs its very good though with its themes and the ideologies of its characters mainline has 3 alignments you can go through chaos law or neutral as well each having its own ending

Yep also there is also the mainline smt series you should give a shot as persona is the spin off series

There is a psp remake of persona 2 innocent sin which is a really easy game there was one of eternal punishment which is the seuqel to innocent sin but that's in japanese only so l would get the ps1 version
